An ex-politician confesses to abusing an eight-year-old girl sexually

A Retired politician admitted to sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl and entered a plea of guilty.
The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, admitted to sexually assaulting the little child nearly 20 years ago at a Cork address.
Lily Buckley BL, representing the State, informed Judge Helen Boyle that the defendant had previously stated in writing that he would enter a guilty plea when the case initially came before Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
The 50-year-old male was accused of sexually assaulting the 8-year-old girl at a Cork address on a date between November 1 and 7, 2003.
The charge was made in violation of Common Law and the Criminal Law Rape Amendment Act 1990, Section 2.
The man loudly exclaimed “Guilty” in response to being asked how he pled.
The individual, who was dressed in a green jacket, jumper, and dark slacks, only spoke once before in court to establish his identity.
According to Ms. Buckley, the State is requesting that the case be postponed until the Circuit Criminal Court’s upcoming sessions.
This was done to make it easier to compile expert findings that would help the court with sentence.
Before the sentence is given, the victim will also have the chance to submit a victim impact statement.
The defendant’s attorney, Kate Aherne BL, stated that her client was in court on a consent to bail.
Ms. Aherne said that her client was now voluntarily forfeiting bail.
Judge Boyle announced that she will postpone the case until sentence on April 25.
She gave explicit instructions on how to get equipped for sentencing.
The defendant was kept in custody once more by Judge Boyle until April 25.
In order to prevent the victim’s identity from being revealed, she placed reporting limits on the case.
