Man charged with reckless driving in Dublin City

The hearing was adjourned until November

In relation to an incident that occurred in the city’s centre on Saturday night where a car mounted the footpath and two pedestrians suffered serious injuries, a 36-year-old man appeared before Dublin District Court.

On Saturday night at Basin Street, Sean Creighton of Summer Street South in the Coombe in Dublin 8 was arrested and charged with reckless driving. He did not respond to the accusation, the court was informed.

He was released on bail for €200 with the requirements that he report twice a week to Kilmainham Garda Station, remain within the jurisdiction, avoid the Basin Street neighbourhood, and refrain from contacting the injured parties.

The hearing was adjourned until November after the court learned that the Director of Public Prosecutions had not yet sent any instructions to the gardaí.

After reviewing Mr. Creighton’s financial account, Judge Michele Finan awarded legal aid.

Around 11.20 p.m. on Saturday, a car accident involving many kerbside barriers, a footpath at Thomas Street, and three persons resulted in the arrest of Mr. Creighton.

Two of the men were sent to St. James’ Hospital for treatment of significant but non-life threatening injuries. The third person did not require emergency medical care.

Police appealed for anyone who may have video or dash cam footage from the area between 11 p.m. and 11.20 p.m. on Saturday to come forward and provide it to gardaí.

The incident has also been reported to the Garda Sochána Ombudsman Commission because the involved car had previously encountered gardaí.
